Atomic Ford Barra Street Timing Chain Tensioner
If you're rebuilding or upgrading the timing system in your Barra, the Atomic Street Timing Chain Tensioner is a direct-fit OEM+ replacement designed to improve on the factory tensioner without going to a full race setup.
CNC machined in Sydney from billet steel, the Atomic tensioner has been designed with improved strength, chain control and damping in mind. An integrated check valve and tuned oil flow help control timing chain movement, while improved oil flow and a stiffer main spring help provide reliable tension, including during cold starts.
Whether you're replacing a worn factory tensioner or putting together a modified street Barra, this is a solid upgrade designed to work across everything from standard engines through to higher-performance street builds.

Vehicle & Engine Fitment
Engine: Ford Barra 4.0L Inline 6
Applications:
- Standard replacement
- Modified street engines
- Performance street builds
Specifications
- Body: CNC billet steel
- Piston: CNC billet steel
- Ratchet: CNC billet EN steel
- Recommended maximum oil pressure: 80 psi
- Deck height tolerance: ±1 mm
- Recommended chain guide: Atomic Billet Street Chain Guide
Important Information
- Designed to operate optimally at oil pressures up to 80 psi.
- Higher oil pressure increases timing chain tension and may result in over-tensioning.
- Do not manually add clicks to the ratchet.
- Do not force the piston out or lever against the chain guide.
- Do not modify or remove any tensioner components other than the supplied retention pin during installation.
- Modification of the tensioner will void the manufacturer's warranty.
Installation Notes
- Install the tensioner before removing the supplied retention pin.
- Only remove the retention pin once the tensioner has been correctly installed.
- Apply Loctite to all mounting bolts.
- Prime the oil system by cranking the engine before starting to fill the cylinder head and tensioner with oil.
- Rotate the engine by hand before final assembly and check the tensioner's resting position.
- The tensioner may make a buzzing noise for several seconds on initial startup while air bleeds from the system.
